the PASSION FACADE

The Passion façade is especially striking for its spare, gaunt, tormented characters, including emaciated figures of Christ being flogged and on the crucifix. These controversial designs are the work of Josep Subirachs.

This façade is oriented to the west. Sharp geometrical shapes and bare and austere ornamentation are used to represent the passion and death of Jesus Christ. It is located at Sardenya Street.
It is composed by a six-column portal that has three entrance doors located between four bell-towers in line. The doors are also dedicated to the Christian virtues.
The sobriety of the façade is also transmitted through the columns, which look like bones, and the severe sculptures of Josep Ma. Subirachs.
